Top 5 Ways to Slim Down for the Wedding  


Everyone wants to look their best for the Wedding Day, which for many people includes dropping a few pounds and inches.

I know exactly how that feels! Although I desperately wanted to lose weight to achieve that lean and sexy body for my wedding and honeymoon...nothing worked! In fact, with all the wedding-stress I turned to food and gained over 50 pounds during our engagement.

For over a decade after the wedding, I tried every pill, diet and exercise program I could find, yet was unsuccessful. I felt hopeless until 8 years ago when I discovered these keys and was able to shed all those pounds and was in a bikini for the first time since high school.

& How to Succeed:

 

1. Food Cravings

Many people are eating foods that spike insulin (sugar, flour, and even excess grains, high-sugar fruits and beans) causing cravings which trigger a shift in their metabolisms.  This causes the body to think it’s starving even though it just consumed a giant bagel or sucked down a Big Gulp.  When that happens, hunger increases and metabolism slows down.  It’s not just their mind, but their body that is screaming for more food.

Success Keys:.

  • Choose low-glycemic foods as the staples of your diet – nuts, seeds, chicken, fish, grass fed meats, low-glycemic veggies (green vegetables, peppers, cauliflower, etc.)

  • Use sugar as a drug – in very small doses or not at all.
  • Eliminate artificial sweeteners – they trigger sweet receptors and hunger, and they slow metabolism leading to type 2 diabetes and obesity.
  • Take an all natural supplement that helps eliminate cravings and reduces appetite. 

 

2. Temptations

Stress is the #1 reason people give in to temptations, and when planning a wedding the stress can be overwhelming. When under pressure, the body releases the hormone cortisol, which signals the brain to look for rewards.  Many people choose “comfort foods,” which are loaded with sugar and fat.  This will apply the brakes to the stress system by weakening this hormone.  However, it makes our brains think that food is the solution and causes weight gain.

Success Keys:
  • Reduce your stress by asking a friend or family member for help.
  • Journal daily to help you track the lies/excuses that cause you to want to give up.
  • Find something else to do: Go for a walk, call a friend, take a bath, etc.
  • If feeling stressed, burn off that nervous energy with exercise.
  • Stay determined and committed to the goal of creating your dream body.

 

3. Slow Results and plateaus

We live in the microwave generation and want everything instantly.  However, losing weight is never instant.   No matter what kind of diet is chosen, slow-downs and plateaus will always come. 

When they do, stay super-determined by continuing to focus on the goal, not on the momentary pleasure. Find a picture of a thin bride and groom, and keep that on the fridge, cell phone, and around the house.

Believe me, sticking to this will be so WORTH IT!  No one wants to look at their wedding photos and videos with regrets and sadness.

 

Success Keys: 
  • Burn more calories – exercise, drink green tea, use spices and hot sauce on foods.
  • Eat different foods, or try different exercises to get the weight loss moving again.
  • Develop patience and persistence to get to the goal.
  • Follow in the footsteps of someone who has already accomplished their weight loss goals.  Their wisdom and encouragement will show what to do to get there and finish strong.  

 

4. Lack of Support

When people begin moving towards their weight-loss goals, especially if other diets have failed, having someone there for accountability and support can make all the difference!  Whether they are going through a tough emotional season, or trying to break some bad habits (such as late night bingeing or unconscious nibbling), having someone to help them through those challenges can greatly improve their success!

Whether they feel like cheating, already fell off the wagon, or want to turn and run the other way – a coach (and support team) can greatly help get them back on track.

Success Keys:
  • Find an accountability partner.
  • Ask for support from your finance', family, or wedding party.
  • Join a weight loss community for connection and support.

5. No Clear Plan

When wanting to lose weight, one of the mistakes people fall into is not having a clear plan of action. With so many different weight loss options, it’s confusing about which one to choose.  With every failed attempt, it’s really hard to get up the faith that the new plan will give any different results. 

For ultimate success, there are many different factors to consider – physical, emotional, mental, and a person’s will.  Try finding a wholistic game plan that also incorporates each of these areas.

Success Keys:
  • Establish a game plan to win that will encourage you on a daily basis.  
  • Find a specific food plan that combines the right foods to release pounds quickly.
  • Decide to give it another try and NEVER quit!  If others have done it, anyone can!
