Top 5 Goal Killers + How to Overcome Them
Content
Do you find yourself sabotaging your goals over and over again? Don't beat yourself up because you're not alone. The sad thing is that 92% of people give up on their goals.
I can’t even remember how many times I’ve started something and quit! Every January, I was filled with hope and determination that this was the year that I was going to be successful with my goals. Pretty quickly though I’d quit and throw in the towel…until I was so disgusted with myself that I'd decide to try again.
This cycle of defeat caused me to feel hopeless, humiliated, and guilty for being so weak. I was tired of living on this merry-go-round and wanted nothing more than to be successful.
Does this sound familiar? Staying faithful to any goal you have does NOT have to be hard though. In fact, it can be quite simple when you destroy your goal killers.
#1: Don’t have time
This is one excuse that many truly believe is real! Truth be told, everyone has the same amount of time. Everyone is busy - just different priorities. If you really want it, you will make a way! It’s all about what you value most. Is it just a wish, or is it a burning desire? Will you do whatever it takes to accomplish your goals? In order to be successful, you have to make yourself and your goals a priority.
#2: Procrastinating
Stop procrastinating and do what Nike says – “Just do it!” You need to pull the trigger on those goals and get started one step at a time. There will never be a perfect day. One of the most dangerous things you could say is “I’ll do it later, or tomorrow.” How many times have you told yourself this excuse? Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today...or tomorrow will never come!
#3: Don't truly believe
This one is big! A lot of people don't truly believe that they'll be successful and that's exactly what's stopping them. In order to succeed in anything, you first must believe that you can succeed...or else you will sabotage your goals every single time. Once you start taking steps towards your goal you will see that it was only your thoughts that were holding you back.
#4: Not prioritizing or investing in yourself
This one is really hard for people who are accustomed to taking care of others. I know that as a mom, for years I never even considered taking time to prioritize myself or my own goals.
What about you? Be honest. Do you feel that you’re worthy of being prioritized and invested in? It may not be easy...but it can be done! If there's a will, there's always a way! You do NOT want to look back when you're older and have huge regrets. I know, as I have 20 years full of regrets that I cannot change.
#5: Fear – Number 1 Reason People Fail
Are you afraid of failing? If so, your fear of failure is more than likely killing your goals! Fear can be immobilizing-- it can cause us to do nothing and therefore resist moving forward. One thing is for sure, if you give up trying, you can guarantee that you’ll never succeed.
